Polaris Workforce Installation

This page will guide you in the installation of Polaris Workforce.

There are a couple of files you will need to download before beginning the installation.
These include the main setup file as well as any additional mapping data needed for your area.

Step 1. Download the installation package for the main Workforce application suite.

Please make sure you download the proper package for your operating system.
The Windows XP package includes .NET 3.5 SP1, whereas the default package does not.

Step 2. Download the map routing package.

Step 3. Install the main application.
Note: Administrative rights are REQUIRED
To run as administrator on Windows XP:

  • Right-click PolarisSetup.exe
  • Click "Run As..." in the context menu
  • Select "The following user:" option, and then select an administrator account to use.
  • Enter the password for the account and press OK
To run as administrator on Windows Vista/7:
  • Right-click PolarisSetup.exe
  • Click "Run As Administrator" in the context menu
  • Enter the username and password for the administrator account, and press OK
BE SURE TO GIVE ANY LIMITED USER ACCOUNTS FULL CONTROL OF THE 'C:\PolarisWorkforce' FOLDER!

Step 4. Run the map data installation program.
This will extract the map data to a location Polaris can access.

Step 5. Launch Polaris Workforce
You can do this by double-clicking the Polaris Workforce icon () on your Desktop.


Troubleshooting

The map tab in the Polaris Workforce ticket manager is greyed out or disabled.
The map data was not installed properly. Please run the map data package again and make sure you have write access to C:\PolarisWorkforce

The map tab is enabled but there is no visible map.
NOTE: Administrative Rights Required

This is usually the result of MonavCom.dll not being properly registered. To register this file, open the command prompt, navigate to the directory you installed Polaris Workforce to (C:\PolarisWorkforce\bin by default), and type the following:

regsvr32 MonavCom.dll

You will receive a confirmation message if the registration was successful.

Test Failed: Read/Write Access
Polaris was unable to read/write to the local disk at 'C:\PolarisWorkforce'. Please make sure the current user has read/write privileges for this folder.
If the folder does not exist, then the user may not have permissions to create it, so it will need to be created by an admin.

Test Failed: Windows Firewall Exceptions
Windows Firewall has no exceptions for Polaris and will block communications. Please make sure there is a firewall exception for PolarisComm5.exe and PolarisUpdater.exe

Test Failed: FTP Allowed
Windows Firewall may be blocking Polaris, please make sure there is a firewall exception for InstallationTests.exe, PolarisComm5.exe and PolarisUpdater.exe

Test Failed: HTTP Allowed
Polaris was unable to contact our HTTP servers. This is most likely due to a network firewall blocking HTTP traffic.
